Extra Tough Artist Spotlight: Suzy Lake + Allison Morris

Join us for a series of virtual talks/Q&A sessions with artists featured in the Extra Tough: Women of the North exhibition. Artists explore their own practice in relationship to feminism and issues affecting women in the North. This week’s session features Suzy Lake and Allison Morris. Registration required; link provided confirmation email.
Suzy Lake was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and later moved to Toronto, Canada. Her formative years were heavily influenced by the social and political unrest of the 1960s, which left its mark on her artwork. She was among the first female artists in Canada to adopt performance, video and photography to explore the politics of gender, the body and identity.
Allison Morris is a fine art photographer based in Tkaronto (Toronto), Canada. Her practice explores themes of beauty, identity, performance and the construction of femininity. Drawing on the history of women portrayed in art, she uses self-portraiture and traditionally feminized materials to challenge our perceptions of the body and the boundaries it creates.
